Passive Fire Protection for Pipe Penetrations in Insulated Plastic and Metal Pipes with Firestop Collars
Passive fire protection includes all measures designed to prevent or slow down the spread of fire without human intervention or the activation of a fire suppression system. One of the key strategies is fire compartmentation, which divides a building into separate fire-rated areas to limit the spread of fire and its effects. To achieve the fire compartmentation levels required by fire safety codes, all service penetrations must be properly sealed. This is where specific fire-resistant elements such as firestop collars come into play.
These devices are designed to seal openings created by pipe penetrations during a fire, maintaining a predetermined fire resistance rating. This firestop sealing system is essential because, as temperature increases, combustible pipes and insulation materials may deform or melt entirely.
A firestop collar consists of a stainless steel outer shell and an intumescent strip inside that expands in the event of fire, effectively sealing off the pipe penetration and preventing the passage of smoke and flames.
Depending on the required level of compartmentation, the type and size of the installation, and the available space, there are two types of firestop collars: pre-formed and continuous.
Firestop Collars: CORH RON CN and CORH RON CN 50
Pre-formed firestop collars are factory-shaped for quick and easy installation. The CORH RON CN and CORH RON CN 50 models are supplied with all components needed for fastening to non-combustible walls, significantly reducing installation time.
All CORH pre-formed collars are certified for both horizontal and vertical penetrations, protecting pipes up to 400 mm in diameter. Approved for fire resistance ratings up to EI 240 for combustible pipes, cables, and insulated metal pipes.
The CORH RON CN also features an ultra-low profile height, allowing installation even when fittings, elbows, or couplings are positioned close to the wall or ceiling.

Continuous Firestop Collar: CORH EFC
Unlike pre-formed collars, the CORH EFC continuous firestop collar does not require knowing the pipe diameter before arriving on-site, offering greater flexibility for installers. The collar can be adjusted directly during installation, making it ideal for a wide range of applications.
The CORH EFC includes 3 meters of stainless steel strip, 10 meters of intumescent material and all necessary fixing components.
It can protect up to six DN100 pipes and offers fire resistance up to EI 240. The CORH EFC is certified for horizontal, vertical, and diagonal penetrations of combustible pipes, cables, and insulated metal pipes.
